Announcing zkAuth: Bridging Web2 and Web3 Identity Management

Three Sigma, contracted by Matter Labs, is excited to announce the ongoing development of zkAuth, a pioneering protocol aimed at transforming identity management across ZK Stack-powered blockchains.

About zkAuth

zkAuth integrates Web2 identity standards with the robustness of Web3 technology, leveraging Account Abstraction (AA) to create a seamless, secure user experience on zkSync. It relies on the OpenID Connect (OIDC) standard for authenticating transactions, simplifying blockchain interactions via familiar login processes such as social media accounts.

By allowing users to link their Web2 identities to their blockchain accounts, zkAuth allows existing applications to integrate blockchain functionalities without requiring users to create new accounts or manage private keys. This innovative approach enhances user experience, while preserving security, making blockchain technology more accessible to a broader audience.

At Three Sigma, we are committed to developing solutions that make blockchain technology more accessible and practical for everyday use. We're proud to be working alongside Matter Labs to revolutionize how identities are managed in blockchain. Making zkAuth available to all ZK Stack blockchains underscores our commitment to enhancing accessibility and security for users and developers alike.

Features and Benefits

Current Status and Future Plans

The zkAuth protocol is composed of two main components: the core smart contract system and the companion developer SDK. Both components are nearing final stages of development and will be open-sourced upon testnet release. The testnet version will feature integration with Clave smart accounts, showcasing zkAuth's capabilities in a real-world scenario. On a second phase, zkAuth will be universally applicable across all ZK Stack-powered blockchains, promoting interoperability within the ecosystem. Details on zkAuth's technical aspects and a comprehensive roadmap will be shared through Three Sigma's official twitter account (https://twitter.com/threesigmaxyz).
